Benefits package

Health and wellbeing are key to happiness. This is why we provide a comprehensive benefits package. When our employees are healthy and happy, our operations run more efficiently and we can better serve our customers. We are constantly seeking ways to promote wellness in the workplace.

Consumer-driven health plans

Our consumer-driven health strategy includes two high-deductible medical plan choices. Both plans offer a Health Savings Account and incentives for participating in the company wellness program, including company contributions to your account. Employees may choose to cover themselves, an eligible spouse and/or eligible children.

The MDC Wellness Program was created to promote a healthy lifestyle among employees. Components include a confidential health risk assessment, biometric screening, a pregnancy support program, the promotion of a tobacco-free environment and preventive health care measures and initiatives designed for disease management.

Dental and vision coverage

The company offers Dental PPO, Dental HMO and vision coverage to help employees cover dental and vision expenses. Again, you may choose to cover yourself, an eligible spouse and/or eligible children.

Life and AD&D insurance

MDC provides all benefits-eligible employees with $50,000 in basic life and AD&D insurance. Supplemental coverage can be purchased for yourself, an eligible spouse and your dependent children. The supplemental life insurance plan offers guaranteed issue amounts in the initial enrollment period.

Short-term & long-term disability

We provide both short-term and long-term disability coverage to non-sales employees in the event of unexpected injury or illness. This coverage provides 60% of the employee’s salary as replacement income. Certain limitations and waiting periods apply.

Flexible spending account

The company offers employees health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, allowing employees to set aside pre-tax contributions to pay for qualified health care and dependent and elder care expenses.


Saving for retirement can be challenging. MDC offers a 401(k) savings plan, as well as a Roth savings option, to simplify saving. The plan offers diversified investment options and a five-year vesting schedule. Company match is an annual discretionary match.

Time-off benefits

Time-off benefits are vital to a quality work/life balance. Non-sales employees receive two weeks of paid vacation, eight company-recognized holidays, five sick days and four bonus floating holidays each year. The total time off earned in your first year of employment will be prorated based on your hire date. Sales associates receive up to 17 time-off days each year, which is prorated in your first year, depending on your date of hire.

In today’s complex world, everyone has to manage personal issues such as stress, anxiety, financial difficulties and family relationships. As an employee at MDC, you are entitled to confidential services to help you maintain a work-life balance through the employee assistance program—at no charge.

A day in the life

Our sales associates adhere to the highest standards and serve a critical role in representing our neighborhoods in each community. Typical duties performed by sales associates include:

  • Procuring and following up on sales leads for our communities
  • Guiding and advising buyers throughout the new home sales process
  • Negotiating and closing deals
  • Completing accurate and timely contract paperwork
  • Obtaining and analyzing market data critical for our communities to remain competitive
  • Following up with current homebuyers to provide a tailored experience throughout the building process
  • Encouraging satisfied buyers to share their story with friends and on social media
  • A flexible schedule, working weekends and some evenings
  • Other significant activities outside of the sales office

Educational requirements

Preferred candidates will have a college degree or equivalent professional work experience and a background in one of the following:

  • New home sales
  • High-end retail sales
  • Any proven track record of sales success

The service our collaborative sales team extends provides a tailored experience for customers at every stage of the homebuying process.


Our construction employees are responsible for managing the construction and completion of quality houses within our desired timeframes and standards. A superior staff ensures that quality and customer satisfaction are maintained throughout the construction process, while overseeing subcontractors and ensuring job-site safety and OSHA compliance.

Customer Experience/Home Care

This team helps every employee within the organization create a customer-centric homebuilding experience focused on constantly improving service and product quality to better achieve homeowner satisfaction.

Finance & Accounting

Our corporate finance department is involved with everything from bank reconciliations to acquisitions, while our accounting team tracks all revenue and expenditures. We pride ourselves on the depth of passion of our team.

Land Acquisition/Development

Our land and development team strives to identify and successfully negotiate land transactions that provide great opportunities for our affiliated companies and support our operations in delivering value for our customers.


This team is responsible for finding innovative ways to communicate the value of our product and the personalized service we deliver to our customers every day. From strategizing and creating advertising campaigns to lead generation, this department touches many facets of our business.


Floor plan layout plays an important role in whether homebuyers can see themselves living in a home. Our architecture team is dedicated to designing homes that flow together in a way that makes sense for a variety of lifestyles. Architecture partners with Merchandising on an ongoing basis to create floor plans that maximize space and livability for the homebuyer.

Recruiting/Human Resources

Recruiting and human resources personnel who uphold our vision for teamwork enable us to maintain operational excellence. Together, this team supports future and current employees from their hire and throughout their careers with our companies.


This team is charged with providing counsel and promoting integrity for our transactions and operations.

Information Technology

A strong technical infrastructure is critical to ensuring a unified experience throughout the customer's homebuying journey. This team both supports our internal technical operations and pursues advances in technology to improve our business processes both at the office and in the field.


Obtaining financing is a key aspect of the homebuying process. The team at Richmond American's affiliate, HomeAmerican Mortgage Corporation, is dedicated to providing a tailored financing experience, by presenting customers with options and information they can use to make their financing choices.


The team members at Richmond American's affiliate, American Home Insurance Agency, Inc., work with multiple carriers to provide a range of coverage choices to help customers protect their homes. They also offer other lines of coverage, including auto and life.


The staff at our affiliate title company, American Home Title and Escrow Company, is dedicated to providing superior title examination of the real estate records for each home to protect the homebuyers against adverse title claims. Our staff takes the time to guide buyers through the title insurance process for greater peace of mind.


Merchandising makes sure each model home has an impressive, coordinated look with fabrics and furniture. They also review and select quality product lines for the Home Gallery™ design center. Finally, from ample closet space to room for a large sofa, it's Merchandising's job to collaborate with architecture to design livable floor plans that work for a variety of lifestyles.

Options team

This team implements processes and strategies to create and maintain standard options, upgrades and product assortments at Richmond American’s sales centers and Home Gallery™ design centers across the country. This includes new community and floor plan setup, interior finish updates, pricing management, as well as ongoing analysis and reporting.


Purchasing manages our supply chains so that quality materials and labor are delivered on time at the best prices. This team is also responsible for driving improvements in our purchasing processes for greater efficiency.
